Event Details

For Youth Initiative has invited a facilitator from the Search Institute to bring the 40 Developmental Assets to the child and youth sector here in Toronto! Please see http://www.search-institute.org/ for more information about their research and the assets.

Infusing Developmental Assets® into organizations is one significant way to help young people thrive. This workshop prepares organizations to more fully incorporate strength-based approaches to intentionally build assets in young people. The workshop is part of Search Institute’s ongoing commitment to assist organizations in their efforts to become more developmentally attentive. It encourages organizational teams to identify their strengths, assess their current organizational realities, become familiar with the impact of a change process and create a strength-based action plan. As a result of this training participants will:

• Celebrate their commitment to young people of their community;

• Understand Developmental Assets - what they are, where they came from, why they are important, and what they look like in action in our organizations and in the lives of our youth;

• Consider multi-facted dimensions of creating an intentionally asset-rich organization;

• Identify starting points with high likelihood for success; and

• Prepare action plans that move beyond “assets” as a term, toward assets as a way of life.

In these informational and interactive sessions, participants will

(1) learn a positive youth development model through research findings from more than 3 million young people;

(2) discover their own experience of Developmental Assets in their personal, organizational, and community life;

(3) review the relevance of this framework to the For Youth Initiative in Toronto neighborhoods where they work;

(4) identify steps for infusing the assets approach into ongoing programs;

(5) become acquainted with an evaluation tool, the Developmental Assets Profile (DAP), a short, effective Search Institute survey for assessing program effectiveness.  (April 6th only)

Please go to www.foryouth.ca for more information or contact us at 416-785-9900.

Organizations that are interested in learning more about the 40 Developmental Assets framework should attend the full-day training on April 5th. Those agencies who are looking to explore outcomes-based evaluation or measurement tools for the 40 assets should also attend the second half-day orientation on the Developmental Assets Profile (DAP). Participants are not able to attend the half-day session without attending the full-day session. We recommend that organizations send a program manager or director as well as staff person who works directly with youth clientele.
